Cisco nominates Siminn for IP network innovation

Cisco has nominated Siminn for three awards for its IP network, which transports voice, data and the company's digital, interactive television. Siminn's nomination categories are Best Broadband Service, Best Broadband Service Control and Corporate Broadband Services.

Siminn received the most nominations of any company, but only two other telecommunications companies are nominated for more than one category: Saudi Telecom and Deutsche Telecom T-Com. In the first category, Best Broadband Service, three are nominated besides Siminn: France24 for Television Transport via Broadband, TDC Kabel in Denmark for Broadband Service Control, and WIND in Italy for Corporate Broadband Services.

The nominations in the second category, in addition to Siminn, are Deutsche Telecom - Germany, Netia - Poland, Neuf Cegetel - France, BT - Italy, E-Plus Mobilfunk - Germany and Saudi Telecom - Saudi Arabia. All were nominated for different projects in the field of the next-generation network systems. In the third and last category, in addition to Siminn, are Centre Hospitalier d'Arras in France for network implementation in a new hospital, Provincia di Brescia in Italy for network implementation in rural areas and Saudi Telecom for expansion of its network system.

"The nomination is a terrific acknowledgment of Siminn's pioneering effort in the last several years in introducing digital, interactive television via ADSL. This recognition also confirms the results and benefits of the expansions during the year to Siminn's IP network. The IP network is the carrier layer for digital services, including television via ADSL. Thus, the considerable expansions to the network enabled Siminn to provide wider and better distribution of data transport on a national scale than before.

The addition to Siminn's IP network, enabling us to serve both companies and individuals better with digital transactions and a more convenient life, is very gratifying to us, and it is safe to say that the project has exceeded our highest hopes," said ICT Director Thór Jes Thórisson.

The IP network has received considerable attention on a world scale, and Siminn's specialists have plenty to do, giving lectures and conferences abroad where they share the company's experience.

Siminn, with its IP network, has tried each time to fulfil the need for speed and security of data transport services. Because of the enormous progress occurring in telecommunications, companies now base their performance on it in greater measure than before and can retrieve and send their data fast and securely. That is where Siminn's IP network comes in, as the biggest and most powerful data network in Iceland.
