Agreement reached on joint distribution of television material

An important step has been taken on the distribution of television material in Iceland, under an agreement entered into by Iceland Telecom and 365 midlar. The agreement stipulates that both parties will distribute the Icelandic television stations of Digital Íslands and Skjár Einn. The agreement provides the customers of both companies access to all Icelandic television stations.

This agreement pertains to television stations broadcast with and without scrambling. This includes the television stations Stöd 2, Skjár Einn, NFS, Enski boltinn (English Football), Sýn, Sýn Extra, Sirkus, Stöd 2 Bíó, Stöd 2+, Skjár Einn+ og Sýn+. The provisions of the agreement stipulate that it also pertains to new television stations of both parties and the planned ADSL television of Og Vodafone.

Part of the agreement enters into force 15 April, which is when broadcasts begin on Skjár Einn of UHF portions of  Digital Íslands, at the same time as the television station Sirkus will become accessible on Iceland Telecom's Broadband. Other unscrambled television stations of Digital Íslands and Skjár Einn will become accessible on all of the systems by 15 June at the latest.  Technical problems must be solved before it becomes possible to broadcast scrambled television stations on all systems, but those broadcasts are scheduled to begin by 15 September 2006 at the latest.

The agreement will be of great benefit to television viewers, and the television material of both parties will reach many more viewers than before. Those only having access to the distribution system of one of the parties can now enjoy the television broadcasts of the other party. Television viewers with access to the distribution systems of both parties can now utilise reception from one of the distribution systems.
